PUNE: A 55-year-old woman sustained an injury to her right hand after she resisted a gang of robbers who looted her gold ornaments.
The incident happened at Pandharsthal vasthi in Uruli Kanchan around 32 kms from Pune on Sunday night.
“The robbers armed with sharp weapons broke a tree branch outside a two-room house built in a field. They then pierced the wood from the kitchen window and opened the door and gained access in the house while homemaker Baby Kanchan was watching television and her 60-year-old husband Mahadev was sleeping,” said senior inspector Rajendra Mokashi from Loni Kalbhor police station on Tuesday.
Mokashi said, “The robbers instructed Kanchan to handover the cupboard keys.
Even though she was having keys, she told them that the keys were with her son who was not present at home.”
“The robbers then snatched her chain and threatened to kill her and forced her to handover her earrings. The total value of the property stolen is Rs 30,000. Kanchan in a bid to resist the gang caught hold of the sharp weapon of one of the robbers and raised an alarm but she was instructed to remain silent,” he said.
The Sr PI said, “On hearing commotion, Mahadev woke from sleep but the robbers threatened him with dire consequences and fled in a sugarcane field and melted into darkness.”
Kanchan later registered an FIR relating to armed robbery and dacoity under sections 395 and 397 of the Indian Penal Code.
